The weapon is patterned exclusively towards right-handed operators. The can is offset to the left, to accommodate the electronic monitoring system mounted on the weapon (though after the Great War, no units have been identified as having a working system). Belts are fed into the firing chamber from a magazine can on the bottom of the weapon. In function, Mercy is a recoil-operated, belt-fed, fully automatic 40mm grenade grenade launcher. It was lost when its operator fell while exploring Dead Wind cavern. At an undetermined time, it was obtained by the Brotherhood of Steel and continued to serve as a weapon, eventually ending up in the hands of a Paladin in the Mojave chapter. During this period, one of its operators spray-painted Hei Gui Bye Bye on the chassis.
A veritable relic, Mercy is a pre-War US Army automatic grenade launcher that was used by one of the US Army's counter-insurgency units hunting Chinese Hei-Gui commandos in the American southwest.
